The GPU is where your budget should go first

For most games at 1080p or 1440p, the graphics card has more impact on frame rate than almost anything else in the build. Overspending on a flashy case and underspending on the GPU is the most common mistake we see in custom builds.

Cooling decides whether that performance lasts

A powerful CPU and GPU that overheat will throttle themselves down mid-game to protect the hardware, which shows up as stutters and dropped frames after ten or fifteen minutes of play. Proper airflow and a cooler matched to the components matter more than most people expect going in.

RAM has a sweet spot

16GB is comfortable for most games today. 32GB helps if you're streaming or running background apps while you play. Beyond that, extra RAM sits unused for most people and is money better spent elsewhere in the build.

Storage speed you'll actually notice

An NVMe SSD cuts game load times dramatically compared to a SATA drive, let alone a hard drive. It's one of the more noticeable upgrades for the price, and worth prioritising over a bigger case or extra fans.

Build quality outlasts the spec sheet

Two builds with identical parts can feel completely different depending on cable management, case airflow and how carefully everything is put together. A rushed build with great parts still runs hotter and louder than it should.
